The Process…
“Fire does not choose. It answers… or it devours.” – Aegon Targaryen
Bonding with a dragon is a rare, dangerous and deeply personal act. The process is poorly understood, even among those of Valyrian blood. Some riders form bonds through sympathy. Others through dominance… And some only through endurance and obsession.
No two bondings are the same. And many end in failure.
Requirements Before Bond Can Be Attempted
- Must have a character with Valyrian blood that equals to 50% or higher.
- All bonding attempts must be roleplayed in (3) full parts. Must be done through a Story Request or given by Staff.
- Staff approval is required before, during, and after the attempt.
The Attempt
To bond with a dragon, the character must approach and meaningfully interact with the dragon without being killed. This is a feat in itself. Staff leading the story will lead the character to the dragon.
During the attempt, the character chooses a method that reflects their approach and roleplay, then rolls the appropriate Skill.
Examples Include:
- Awareness – Interpreting the dragon’s sounds, posture and reactions
- Equestrian – Treating the dragon as a mount or companion
- Fighting – Attempting dominance through force of will and intimidation
The Skill chosen must match the narrative approach taken in the scene.
A Dragon’s Resistance
If the roleplay has gone favorably, the dragon resists by rolling half it’s Health.
If the roleplay leaves the dragon uncertain, it resists with it’s full Health.
If the roleplay leaves the dragon hostile, it still resists with it’s full Health but failure carries far greater consequences.
Outcomes
Rider Success
The bond takes hold. Rider and dragon are joined by a powerful emotional and instinctive connection. This moment and bond is intense, addictive and inescapable.
Dragon Success | Non Hostile
The bond fails. The dragon flees, disturbed by the attempt.
The character may NEVER attempt to bond with that dragon again.
Dragon Success | Hostile
The bond fails catastrophically. The dragon does not flee.
It attacks, attempting to kill the one who dared to bind it.
Remember:
Bonding is never safe. Failure is permanent and sometimes fatal…
Unapproved or rushed bonding attempts may be denied and/or result in loss of opportunity.
Narrative weight matters as much as mechanics.
Dragon Sizes
Vary enormously in power, temperament and resistance. Size directly affects their Health and bonding difficulty.
