Kingโ€™s Landing Ascendant

The Crownlands

Kingโ€™s Landing continues to grow rapidly, surpassing both White Harbor and Gulltown to become the third largest city in the realm. Only Oldtown and Lannisport are larger.

The young Prince Daerion Targaryen distinguishes himself in a melee at just three and ten years old, besting seasoned knights and earning great acclaim.

In recognition of his prowess, Queen Visenya Targaryen gifts him the Valyrian Steel sword Dark Sister

Not long after the young Prince turns three and ten the pressure from the High Septon to see the betrothal of his niece and the Prince honored, Prince Daerion is wed to the Lady Ceryse of House Hightower in a grand ceremony held at the Starry Sept in Oldtown. The Lady of House Velaryon and her children attend his wedding. Queen Visenya and her sister are seen whispering in the background, neither appear pleased.  Some say it is the youth of the Prince that is the issue, others that it is the lack of Valyrian blood in the Hightower girl that causes such dour faces.

That following year, the walls around Kingโ€™s Landing were completed.

The Vale of Arryn

At Lady Sharras urging, Aslan was sent to Runestone to serve as Lord Allard Royceโ€™s squire. There, under a demanding but fair master, he was trained in arms and discipline, laying the foundations of honor and duty that would define him. Neither heir nor diplomat, Aslans path was shaped not by politics, but by steel and endurance, quietly forging him into a protector.

Heirs and Loss

The Crownlands

Prince Aegon is born to Prince Mael and Lady Alyssa.  A grand feast and tourney are held to mark the birth of Prince Maels presumed heir.

A Union of Fire and Flower

The marriage of Moryn Tyrell, second son of Lord Lyonel Tyrell, to Princess XX Targaryen, daughter of Queen Rhaenys and King Aegon, was celebrated as a union that bound the Reach more tightly to the young Targaryen dynasty. Though Moryn was not his fatherโ€™s heir, the match was still of great honor. Targaryen blood was rare, and alliances with the Iron Throne rarer still.

By Aegonโ€™s decree, the ceremony was held at the Aegonfort rather than in the Reach. This was both a gesture of royal favor and a reminder of the power centered upon the Black Dreadโ€™s hill. But for the wedding, the normally stark and militaristic palisades of the Aegonfort were softened with unprecedented splendor.

Woven garlands of Reach roses draped from the wooden walkways. Massive vases brought north from Highgarden by wagon overflowed with lilies, gold blossoms, and pale Maidenโ€™s Tears. Targaryen banners of red and black hung beside Tyrell green and gold, the colors so intertwined that some joked the walls themselves had begun to bloom.

Princess XX arrived by carriage keeping with her gentle nature and the customs of Westerosi weddings. Her carriage was carved white oak, decorated with rose motifs sent by House Tyrell, and escorted by the Kingsguard.

When the doors opened, the princess stepped forth in a gown of shimmering silk. The fabric shifted like smoke when she moved, and fine gold stitching shaped spiraling roses along the sleeves a gift from the bridegroomโ€™s family. Her hair, fair as pale wheat, was braided with tiny pearls and threaded lightly with green ribbons in honor of her new house.

The court gasped at her beauty, but more at the poise with which she carried the burden of her bloodline.

Moryn, though not the heir, cut a striking figure. Broad shouldered, honest faced, and known for his easy manner with both smallfolk and knights wore a mantle of living roses over green velvet. Though overshadowed by his elder brother in inheritance, he was said to possess the warmth and steadiness of the Reachโ€™s soil.

As the princess approached, he bowed deeply almost reverently and those closest to the dais swore they saw the young Tyrell swallow hard as she smiled at him.

The High Septon presided within a great pavilion erected in the Aegonfortโ€™s yard.  Before all assembled, Moryn and Princess XX knelt on a woven carpet of flowersโ€”rose petals, lavender, and mint. The scent rose warm around them as the High Septon spoke of union, prosperity, and the promise of peace.

Gently Moryn removed the bridal cloak from his bride, replacing it with the resplendent gold and green of his own House colors.  The words were spoken and all those who could fit inside the courtyard smiled their approval.

What the Aegonfort lacked in Highgardenโ€™s natural beauty, the Tyrells compensated for in abundance. The feast lasted well into the night, illuminated by lanterns shaped like blossoms and floating candles set upon shallow pools around the yard.

Notable dishes included almond crusted capon with honeyed rosewater, thick river trout in green herb sauces, savory pies filled with boar and mushrooms and trays of tiny sugared fruits, each carved into the shape of a flower.

The wine Reach vintage, sweet and strong flowed so freely that at least five lords of the Stormlands were carried out before the third course.

When the musicians struck their first notes, Moryn offered his hand to his bride. Princess XX moved light as a whisper, while the Tyrell lord held her with quiet confidence. Their movements mirrored the union itself, Dragons grace tempered by the grounding calm of the Reach.

The crowd applauded wildly when the dance ended, and several Reach ladies were overheard sighing that even second sons might be worth marrying if they danced as sweetly as Moryn.

Throughout the evening, laughter and music filled the Aegonfort. Lords from all over Westeros mingled under its blossoming banners. Targaryen knights raised toasts to the Reach, and Reach lords toasted the Dragons in return. For one night at least, Westeros felt united, if only by wine and the glow of celebration.

The bedding was conducted with lively humor but restrained out of respect for the princessโ€™s birth and the kingโ€™s presence.

By morning, the court declared it a joyous match, one that strengthened ties between the throne and Highgarden and brought a rare brightness to the Aegonfortโ€™s dark hill.
