Character Creation Example

Please follow the step by step below. If you have any questions at any point before submission, please just submit a ticket in Discord.

Step 1 – Choose an Archetype

Having perused the open roles, I have decided to play Mycah Morrigen, grandson of Dickon Morrigen who died in the Last Storm. The character will be a soft spoken schemer, always aiming to secure his house after opposing the Targaryens barely 2 generations back. To represent this, I will play the Noble archetype and allocate my beginning skills this way:

Awareness = +2
Fighting = +2
Tactics = -1

This represents my attentiveness to details, my skill at arms, and my study of historical battles. Mycah isn’t keen to make the same mistakes as Argilac the Arrogant. These are my core skills.

I now have 4 points to allocate anyway I choose.

It makes sense to have a noble who pays attention to his money, his lands, and the upkeep of his soldiers, so I will put one point into Stewardship. I’ll put another in Tactics to improve my studies of war. That gives me two points remaining. These go to Equestrian, and Marksmanship, to round out my noble upbringing.

My tally of starting skills are now:
Awareness = +2
Equestrian = +1
Fighting = +2
Marksmanship = +1

Stewardship = 1
Tactics = +2

Step 2 – Choose Advantages

Because I want my schemer noble to be good with numbers, I take Born Castellan, and Golden Touch.

Now my skills are:
Awareness = +2
Equestrian = +1
Fighting = +2
Marksmanship = +1

Stewardship = +3
Tactics = +2

Born Castellan, Golden Touch

Step 3 – Choose Disadvantages

Reviewing the list, and comparing it to the outline of the character that is forming in mind, I decide to take Distracted, to represent the constant plots and schemes that race through Mycah’s mind, and Small, because the idea of a smaller character trying to become a giant in the Game of Thrones is appealing, and emphasizes his soft spoken nature. This fulfills my required one disadvantage, and the second choice gives me an additional advantage. I choose Blood of the Andals, and adjust my sheet accordingly.

Step 4 – Determine Health

Because my highest skill is Stewardship at a +3, I would have 3 Health, but the Small disadvantage lowers that to 2 Health.

Step 5 – Determine Status

House Morrigen is sworn to House Baratheon, a Great House. I consult the write up for House Morrigen and find that it is considered a Major House of the Stormlands. Consulting with other players that are interested in the House, I decide that Mycah is not the Lord of the House, but the eldest son. That puts my status at a 4, heir to a Major House.

Please make sure to double check the Region section for your chosen House’s Status.

Step 6 – Determine Wealth & Belongings

As I check the House Write Up, I note that House Morrigen is neither destitute or filthy rich. The House Wealth is currently Stable (4). That allows me to equip Mycah with anything that is incidental. Nothing in the house write up indicates a Valyrian blade, so I equip him with a Castle Forged longsword (+1 to hit), a quality horse, a set of noble clothes in house colors (green and black), full plate armor (-3 to initiative, +3 health levels when worn), a castle forged dagger for defense in places of propriety, and a small pouch of gold dragons for incidental expenses. In the course of RP, the Stable Wealth of my family will be a guideline for how much I can afford to throw around without worrying. And will guide the narrative for important expenditures

Please make sure to double check the Region section for your chosen House’s Wealth

Step 7 House Units

Because I am not playing the Lord or Lady of the House, and my house will have other players involved, I consult with those players to determine House Morrigens first two Units.

The Staff has also assigned 5 extra units to the Royal House, 4 extra units to the Great Houses, 3 extra units to the Major houses, 2 extra units to Minor or Knightly Houses. Seeing that, I help to decide the 5 total units we begin with.

Step 8 – Background and Ties to the Story History

Working with my fellow house players and to the players of Houses with which we have ties, I work out my background, choosing rivals, seeding friendships and animosities to help drive the roleplay. Mycah has a Rivalry with a Tully boy who bullied him in the training yard when they were small, and is smitten by a girl of the newly elevated Tyrell family.

Step 9 – Finalizing the Numbers

Mycah Morrigen
Heir to Crow’s Nest

Awareness = +2
Equestrian = +2
Fighting = +2
Marksmanship = +1

Stewardship = +3
Tactics = +3

Advantages: Born Castellan (+2 to Stewardship), Golden Touch (Double Wealth Gain), Blood of the Andals (+1 to Equestrian and Tactics)

Disadvantages: Distracted (-2 to Initiative), and Small (-1 Health).

Health: 2 (5 in armor)
Initiative: +0 (2 for awareness, -2 for distracted)

Personal Combat – Sword or Dagger, +3 (+2 for fighting, +1 for castle-forged)
